Three Small Ways to Make Space for Yourself this Holiday Season

The holidays can be a wonderful time filled with family, friends, and company parties. Whether you’re hosting this year or traveling to spend your time with loved ones, it can be hard to make time for yourself in this busy season. Here are three small ways you can take some time to prioritize yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

  1. Move your body - even if it’s for five minutes! This could be anything from a walk with your family dog, a class at a local fitness studio, or a brief stretch session in the mornings. Find space in your day for at least five minutes of movement to set the pace for the beginning of your day or unwind in the evenings. If you need more ideas on how to move your body, check out the SculptXV mini-blocks on demand. Mix and match with lower body, upper body, and core work. If you find yourself with an hour to spare, you could even take a whole class!

  1. Make yourself a feel-good snack - especially if it’s good FOR you. We love these delicious pumpkin oatmeal muffins, and keep your eyes peeled on our Instagram for a black bean brownie recipe! If those are too time-consuming, consider making yourself some apple nachos. Simply slice up your favorite apple and top it with whatever sounds good. We’re a fan of peanut butter, chocolate chips, walnuts, coconut shreds, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, add in some pomegranate for a juicy pop! We recommend ditching the peanut butter if you add the pomegranate. None of those sound up your alley? Then have a Christmas cookie (or two - we won’t judge).

  1. Practice gratitude by starting a daily thankfulness journal or note on your phone. This one can be especially hard because let’s face it - sometimes the holidays leave you with more complaints than compliments. Do it in a way that works for you. You can start your morning with three things that you are looking forward to, keep a running list of moments throughout your day that brought you joy, or close out your evening with a recap of all the good the day brought you. You’ll be surprised to find how it can shift your mindset and help you notice the wonderful world around you.

Even if these ideas do not appeal to you, it is still important to fill your own cup amidst the hustle and bustle. We hope you'll find some encouragement here to create a little bit of zen for yourself this holiday season.
